BASIC POSING GUIDE #BLOG

BASIC POSING GUIDE

(for beginner models)

1. BODY POSTURE — ALWAYS START HERE

  • Stand slightly turned to the side (never fully facing the camera)
  • Shift your weight onto one leg
  • Keep the other leg relaxed, slightly bent or extended
  • Straighten your posture without tension — imagine someone pulling you up from the top of your head

👉 Think of creating an “S” shape with your body, not standing stiff and straight.

2. HANDS — THE MOST COMMON ISSUE

❌ Don’t press your arms tightly against your body
❌ Don’t clench your fists

✅ Better options:

  • keep fingers relaxed,
  • place one hand softly on the hip (without pressing),
  • keep hands in motion: touch your hair, neck, shoulder or clothing,
  • keep elbows slightly away from the body.

👉 Hands should look natural and fluid — never frozen.

3. FACE & NECK

  • Gently move your chin slightly forward and down
  • Relax your lips (soft smile or slightly open lips)
  • Don’t stare intensely into the camera — think about something calm and natural

👉 A soft, neutral expression always looks better than a forced smile.

4. MOVEMENT = BETTER PHOTOS

Don’t freeze in one pose.

Create small movements:

  • shift your weight,
  • slightly turn your head,
  • lower and lift your shoulders,
  • take a small step forward or backward.

👉 The photographer captures the moment — your job is to move naturally and slowly.

5. WORKING PACE DURING A SHOOT

  • Change something small after every click
  • Don’t wait for instructions for every single frame
  • If you don’t know what to do → move, adjust your hands and change your angle

👉 One outfit should create many different shots — not just one pose.

6. POSING FOR FASHION (VERY IMPORTANT)

  • Remember: you are selling the clothing, not yourself
  • Don’t cover the shape or details of the outfit
  • Show the silhouette clearly
  • If the outfit has an important detail — direct movement or attention toward it

7. PREPARATION BEFORE A SHOOT (ESSENTIAL)

📌 Before every shoot:

  • practice posing in front of a mirror,
  • record yourself on your phone (15–20 minutes),
  • save 5–10 favorite poses,
  • study models with a similar body type.

8. THE GOLDEN RULE

It’s always better to look natural and effortless than to look like you’re trying too hard.
