10 PRACTICAL TIPS FOR MODELS #BLOG

How to Prepare for a Photoshoot?

We hope you had a lovely weekend! Ours was intense — but in the best possible way. We’ve been working on content that we truly hope will be not only inspiring, but above all practical and genuinely helpful.

The result is a complete guide:

👉 10 practical tips to help you prepare for a photoshoot — whether it’s your very first time in front of the camera or another professional campaign.

We gathered experiences from both our team, models and photographers to create a set of proven tips that will help reduce stress, answer common questions and allow you to step onto set feeling confident and prepared.

1. TAKE CARE OF YOUR SLEEP & HYDRATION

A well-rested model looks fresh, relaxed and radiant — and it shows in photos. Avoid alcohol the day before, drink plenty of water and try to go to bed earlier than usual.

2. AVOID TANNING & SKIN EXPERIMENTS

A few days before the shoot, avoid tanning beds, self-tanners and intensive skincare treatments. Your skin should look natural, fresh and irritation-free.

3. HAIR & NAIL CARE

Make sure your hair is clean and healthy-looking — it doesn’t need to be styled if a hairstylist will be on set. Nails should be neat, clean and preferably neutral or without polish.

4. PREPARE THE RIGHT WARDROBE

If styling is not provided by the client or agency, bring simple essentials:
basic tops, jeans, black bodysuits, a white shirt and seamless underwear.

The fewer prints and logos — the better.

5. BRING EXTRA SHOES

Always bring clean shoes with you (for example white sneakers or black heels), especially if full-body shots are planned.

And don’t forget comfortable shoes for getting to set!

6. AVOID HEAVY MAKEUP

(unless requested otherwise)

For tests and polaroids, always arrive with little to no makeup. If it’s a larger production, a professional makeup artist will usually take care of the look.

Your skin should simply be clean and moisturized.

7. PAY ATTENTION TO HYGIENE & DETAILS

Arrive freshly showered, clean and without strong perfume (scents are not always welcome on set).

Use lip balm and body lotion to keep your skin looking healthy and hydrated.

8. DOUBLE-CHECK THE LOCATION & TIME

The day before the shoot, confirm the exact address, check the route and leave earlier than necessary.

Punctuality is one of the most important parts of professionalism.

9. BRING DOCUMENTS & AGENCY CONTACTS

It’s always good to have:

  • your ID,
  • a fully charged phone,
  • agency/casting contact details,
  • and the production contact number in case of unexpected changes.

10. KEEP A POSITIVE MINDSET

A smile, openness and good energy are all visible in photos.

Trust yourself and trust your agency.

A photoshoot is not an exam — it’s a collaborative process created by the entire team.

SUMMARY

Good organization, thoughtful preparation and a positive mindset are the foundation of a successful photoshoot.

At UNIQUE AGENCY, we believe a model doesn’t simply “pose” — they help create the atmosphere and final result of the production.
